Lead Guitar & Soloing
Take your spot in the course and explore a variety of guitar lessons offered both in our Core Learning Path and Advanced Masterclasses. Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate, or seasoned player, our instructors are here to guide and support you.
How to Play Guitar Chords
At your Online Guitar Academy, learning guitar starts with mastering chords—an essential skill for rhythm and harmony. Students begin by choosing a course level and selecting the chord types they want to focus on.
Each lesson introduces finger placement, chord diagrams, and strumming techniques, followed by real-time video guidance. Major chords (like C, G, D) and minor chords (like Am, Em) are taught with interactive play-along tracks. Barre and seventh chords are covered in intermediate to advanced sessions.
When a student masters a chord, they can practice transitions and apply it to popular songs using our playback tools. If a mistake occurs, our smart system highlights the issue and provides tips to correct it.
For example:
Major chords give your music a bright, happy tone.
Minor chords add a softer, emotional feeling.
A “power chord” is perfect for rock riffs and is simplified for beginners.
Students “pass” a lesson once they hit 90% chord accuracy. Whether you’re just starting or aiming to refine your skills, our academy guides you every step of the way.
Doubling Down – In our academy, this is like committing to a challenging riff or solo right after learning the basic notes. Once you’ve mastered the first few techniques, we give you the option to “double down” by jumping into more complex exercises with added rewards—accelerated progress, bonus content, or performance tracks. It’s a bold move for confident learners.
Splitting Your Practice Focus – When you discover you’re equally skilled in two areas—say, rhythm and lead—you can “split” your path. We let you divide your course into specialized tracks, placing equal focus on each. Just like in music, splitting can take you farther, faster, but it requires balance. For example, barre chords and pentatonic scales can be studied in tandem—except for foundational topics like tuning, which stay in their own lane.
Skill Insurance – Unsure if your performance is ready for the next level? Use our “skill insurance” feature. If your readiness assessment shows uncertainty, you can bet on a backup lesson—just in case—so you don’t lose momentum. If it turns out you were ready, the insurance module boosts your confidence and pays off with an extra badge.
Ties and Do-Overs – Sometimes your skill test results in a draw—almost but not quite passing. In that case, you get your learning credit back to try again, no penalty.
Hand Signals – On-screen cues and visual feedback guide your playing posture, chord switching, and picking motion. They’re non-verbal tools to help you perfect technique—ask your instructor (or AI coach) for help interpreting them.
Optional Practice Challenges (Side Bets)
King’s Groove™ – Challenge yourself to play a chord combo that adds up to a “perfect 20” difficulty score. Bonus points if the chords are harmonically paired (like G and Em). Rare combos with the same root or same fret positioning earn higher rewards.
Perfect Pairings™ – This optional challenge rewards you when your first two chords in a jam session match (like Am-Am). Bonuses scale up based on similarity—basic match, same chord family, or identical shape on different frets.
Double Pair Jam™ – Three bonus challenges: match the instructor’s chord combo, match your own combo twice, or match both. Higher difficulty pays off with higher score multipliers.
